Kate is 39. She developed breast cancer in may 2005. It was while having a bath that Kate first felt a lump. She describes the next two weeks as a feeling of inevitable doom . waiting for biopsy results. Luckily none of the lymph nodes had been affected, Kate had discovered it early whilst routinely checking herself. A mastectomy was performed at Kate’s local hospital and in March 2006 Kate underwent reconstructive surgery using the muscle from her back. The nipple was reconstructed in July and the tattooing is due in October. Kate currently feels fit and well. She says that she has a greater appreciation of life and has recently completed a 10k charity run
