Helen is 45 years old and lives in Essex, and underwent a preventative double mastectomy at the Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester. She underwent a genetic test after her Mother, Sister and two cousins developed Breast Cancer in their forty’s.  Helen had originally undergone Breast Augmentation in December 2002 after breast feeding four babies. Her original implants were placed under the muscle wall which was of benefit when it came to Mr Baildam’s surgery on her due to pockets being made under the muscle wall.  Due to her Breast tissue being stretched by her original implants Mr Baildam advised that the centre part of her nipple be removed as her nerves etc were very close to her outer breast tissue, it also reduced the risk of breast cancer in the nipple.  In November 2009 original implants and breast tissue were removed, and at the same time expanders placed under the muscle wall where pockets were originally made.  After about 12 weeks 2 sessions of expansion (where Saline is inserted into a valve hidden beneath the skin) were given a month apart.  The expanders were then replaced at the end of May 2010 with Silicone implants that gave a more natural contour to the breast. Helen is still in the process of waiting for nipple reconstruction and tattooing that will hopefully be done in a few months time.  Helen original cup size was 34DD/E and she opted to go bigger expanding her breasts to a 34F/FF.
